Chat encryption

Any chat can be protected with a password. The messages of an encrypted chat are stored in a form that nobody can read without the password, including CAICHAT staff.

🔒 How to turn on encryption

1. Open the chat and click the lock in the side panel next to the character’s name. The “End-to-end encryption” window opens with the text “Your chat is not encrypted”.

2. Come up with an encryption password (8 to 64 characters) and enter it twice.

3. Click Enable encryption. The lock closes , and the encryption window says “Your chat is encrypted”.

The next time you open the encrypted chat, the site asks for the password.

Don’t forget the password

An encryption password can’t be recovered. Without it, nobody can read the chat’s messages — neither you nor support. Keep the password somewhere safe, for example in a password manager.

🔓 How to turn off encryption

Click the lock in the side panel and choose Disable encryption. The chat becomes a regular one again and no longer counts toward your encrypted chat limit.

⚠️ What isn’t available in encrypted chats

• Reply ratings and complaints. To review a complaint, a moderator would have to read the conversation, and in an encrypted chat that’s impossible.
• Automatic memories. The character doesn’t save important moments by itself: the system would have to read the conversation for that. You can add memories manually.

Memories aren’t encrypted

Only the chat’s messages are encrypted. Memories you add manually are stored as plain text, so don’t write in them anything that must stay secret.

If you’ve used up the limit, you’ll see the message “You’ve hit your encrypted chat limit!”. Turn off encryption in chats where you no longer need it, or choose a higher plan.

Unfortunately, it can’t be recovered — that is exactly what protects the conversation. You can start a new chat with the character with New chat. You can delete the old encrypted chat in the Chats section.

Is the encryption password my account password?

No, it is a separate password just for this chat. It’s better if it doesn’t match your account password.

How does CAICHAT handle regular, unencrypted chats?
